Privacy Policy | Second Career Home Inspector

This Privacy Policy explains what information Second Career Home Inspector ("we", "us") collects when you use inspectioncareer.com and the Home Inspector Study Guide, how we use it and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can.

1. Information you give us

Email sign-ups. When you sign up for the free state guide, we collect your email address. You confirm your address by clicking a link we email you (double opt-in).
Purchases. When you buy the study guide, our reseller Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details. We receive your name, email address and order details. We never see or store your full card number.
Your license key. When you sign in at inspectioncareer.com/study, you enter the license key from your receipt.
Emails you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.

2. Information collected automatically

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, for security and to keep the site running.
Fonts. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address.
Google Ads. Our public pages load the Google tag from Google so we can measure whether our Google ads lead to visits and purchases. Google may set cookies and receive information such as your IP address, browser details and the pages you visit, and uses it as described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. The tag does not run inside the study guide at inspectioncareer.com/study.

3. Cookies and saved settings

Sign-in cookies. On inspectioncareer.com/study we set two cookies: one that keeps you signed in during a visit, and one that remembers your device for up to about 13 months so you do not need to re-enter your key. The second cookie holds your license key and a device ID, signed so it cannot be changed.
Google advertising cookies. The Google tag on our public pages may set cookies that measure ad results. You can block or delete them in your browser settings.
Saved progress. Your chosen state, quiz answers and unlocked modules are saved in your own browser on your device. This information is not sent to us.
Sign-up reminder. If you have already signed up for the free guide, your browser remembers it so we do not keep asking you.

You can clear cookies and saved site data in your browser settings at any time. If you do, you will need to sign in again and your saved progress on that device will be lost.

4. How we use your information

To send the free state guide and the emails you signed up for.
To deliver the study guide, check your license key and limit the number of devices it is used on.
To answer your questions and provide support.
To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

5. Service providers we use

We share information only with the companies that help us run the site, and only what they need:

Hostinger: website hosting, our email inbox and our email list (Hostinger Reach).
Lemon Squeezy: payments, sales tax, receipts, refunds and license keys. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and handles your payment information under its own privacy policy.
Google Fonts: the fonts used on our pages.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.

6. Marketing emails

Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe by emailing info@inspectioncareer.com. We will still send emails about a purchase, such as receipts and access information.

7. How long we keep information

We keep your email address on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting laws require. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited time.

8. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we have about you, correct it or delete it. Email info@inspectioncareer.com from the address you used with us, and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and we will honor them.

9. Security

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), and we limit access to personal information to what is needed to run the business. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

The site and the study guide are meant for adults preparing for a career. They are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will post a notice on the site or email people on our list.
